Fire Fall-01

This photo series captures the rare moment when sunlight strikes the cascade at just the right angle, transforming water into flame. The fall glows molten orange, as though the mountain itself is bleeding fire. There is no special effect, no human interference, only nature, precise and theatrical in its timing. They call it the Firefall!

Each February, for a few evenings, the granite face of El Capitan ignites. At the eastern edge of the rock, as winter climbs to Yosemite Valley, a slender waterfall begins to flow fed by snowmelt. And when the sun begins to set, if the skies are clear and the timing precise, light and water conspire in a brief, breathtaking illusion.
