Waiapi

A series of photos that are part of a long-term work, and which reflects encounters with territories and the culture of one of the most traditional indigenous people of Brazil.
The Waiapi are an Indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest, living primarily in the state of Amapá, Brazil, with communities also in French Guiana. Speakers of the Waiapi language, part of the Tupi-Guarani family, they maintain a deep cultural connection to the forest through traditional practices such as body painting, storytelling, and communal living. Known for their vibrant presence and environmental stewardship, the Waiapi continue to protect their territory and way of life amid ongoing threats from deforestation and illegal mining. These images offer a respectful glimpse into their daily lives, traditions, and the enduring strength of their community.
