The Libyan Civil War or the NATO intervention in Libya was a conflict that involved the overthrow of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, who had been in power for over four decades. The war began as part of the wider wave of protests and uprisings during the Arab Spring, which saw various Middle Eastern and North African countries experiencing political turmoil and demands for democratic reforms. Muammar Gaddafi had ruled Libya since 1969, establishing an authoritarian regime with a mix of nationalist, pan-Arab, and anti-Western rhetoric.
